Aimeric is a medieval French masculine name derived from the Germanic elements *amal*, associated with the Amal dynasty of the Goths and connoting vigor or labor, combined with *rīk*, meaning powerful or ruler. It was widely used in southern France and the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages, carried notably by several troubadours and crusader nobles. The name gave rise to the Latinized form Amalricus and spread into other languages as Amaury in French, Amerigo in Italian, and Emmerich in German, the Italian form famously lending its name to the Americas through the explorer Amerigo Vespucci.
