Alícia is the Catalan and Portuguese form of Alice, ultimately derived from the Old French name Aalis, itself a short form of Adalheidis, a Germanic compound of adal, meaning noble, and heid, meaning kind or sort. The name spread widely across medieval Europe through aristocratic and royal usage, and gained further cultural prominence through Lewis Carroll's 1865 novel featuring the character Alice.
