Aleksander

Aleksander is the Polish, Slovene, Estonian, Norwegian, and Danish form of Alexander, derived from the ancient Greek name Alexandros, composed of the elements alexein, meaning to defend, and aner, meaning man, thus carrying the sense of defender of men. The name was spread throughout the ancient world largely through the fame of Alexander the Great, the Macedonian king of the 4th century BC whose conquests extended from Greece to northwestern India.
