Aloisia

Aloisia is a Latinate feminine form of Aloisius, itself the Latin rendering of the Germanic name Aloys or Ludwig-derived Aloysius, ultimately rooted in the Old High German elements ali, meaning "other" or "foreign," and wīg, meaning "war" or "battle." The name gained wider recognition through its association with Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, the sixteenth-century Italian Jesuit patron of youth, whose Latin name Aloisius brought the form into ecclesiastical use. Aloisia remains rare, used chiefly in German-speaking regions as a feminine counterpart to Aloys and Aloisius, with the shortened forms Aloisa and Luise serving as common variants.
