Annukka

Annukka is a Finnish pet form of Anna, which itself derives from the Hebrew name Channah, meaning grace or favor. The name belongs to a cluster of Finnish diminutive and hypocoristic forms built on the Anna base, sitting alongside variants such as Annikki, Aino-related forms, and the simpler Anni. It has been in steady use in Finland as an affectionate, distinctly Finnish rendering of the internationally widespread Anna tradition. The Hebrew root name gained wide Christian adoption through its association with Saint Anne, the traditional mother of the Virgin Mary.
