Antonella is an Italian feminine diminutive of Antonia, itself the feminine form of the Latin family name Antonius, of uncertain ultimate origin though long associated with the ancient Roman gens Antonia. Some scholars have proposed a connection to an Etruscan or Greek root, but no derivation has been conclusively established. The name has been widely used in Italy and Spanish-speaking countries, carried partly by the enduring prestige of figures such as Saint Anthony of Padua.
