Antonieta

Antonieta is a Portuguese and Spanish feminine diminutive form of Antonia, itself the feminine of Antonius, an ancient Roman family name of uncertain etymology, possibly of Etruscan origin. The name became widely used across the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America, carried in part by the prestige of Saint Anthony of Padua and the broader Antonius lineage. A notable bearer is María de la Soledad Anunciación Antonieta Rivas Mercado, a prominent Mexican intellectual and patron of the arts in the early twentieth century.
