Antonija

Antonija is the South Slavic and Latvian feminine form of Antonius, the Latin family name of the prominent Roman gens Antonia, whose meaning is uncertain though it may derive from an Etruscan root. The name gained wide use across Europe largely through the veneration of saints such as Anthony of Padua and Anthony the Great. Antonija is the standard feminine equivalent used in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Latvia, belonging to the same broad family as Antonia, Antoinette, and Tonja.
