Astri is a Norwegian given name, a shortened form of the Old Norse name Ástríðr, composed of the elements áss, meaning god, and fríðr, meaning beautiful or beloved. The name was borne by several medieval Scandinavian queens, including Astrid of Sweden, the mother of the Norwegian king Olaf II. It remains a traditional feminine name in Norway and Sweden, where the fuller form Astrid is the more widely used cognate.
