Augustijn

Augustijn is the Dutch form of Augustinus, a Latin name derived from Augustus, itself from the Latin root augere, meaning to increase or to consecrate. Augustus was a title of honor granted to the Roman emperor Octavian, and the name spread widely through the early Christian world largely through the influence of Saint Augustine of Hippo, the renowned fourth-century theologian. Augustijn is a rare variant within the Dutch-speaking tradition, sitting alongside more common forms such as Augustin, Augustino, and the anglicized Augustine.
