Benedikt

Benedikt is the German, Icelandic, and Czech form of the Late Latin name Benedictus, derived from the Latin root benedictus meaning blessed, itself composed of bene (well) and dicere (to speak or say). The name became widely used across Europe largely through the influence of Saint Benedict of Nursia, the sixth-century Italian monk who founded the Benedictine monastic order and whose Rule shaped Western monasticism. Numerous popes have borne the Latinized form, further cementing the name's prestige in Christian tradition.
