Berit

Berit is a Scandinavian contracted form of the Old Norse name Birgitta, itself derived from the Old Irish name Brigid, which comes from the Proto-Celtic root brig meaning strength or power. The name became widespread in medieval Scandinavia largely through the veneration of Saint Birgitta of Sweden, the fourteenth-century mystic and founder of the Bridgettine order.
