Birdie

Birdie is an English diminutive pet form derived from the word bird, used as a given name from the nineteenth century onward, when nature-inspired and affectionate nickname names were fashionable in English-speaking countries. It was sometimes also employed as a familiar form of names beginning with the sound Bir-, such as Bertha or Bridget. The name enjoyed modest popularity in the United States and Britain during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Birdie, Birdy, and Birdee are variant spellings found in records from the same era.
