Brigitta

Brigitta is a Latinate and Germanic form of the Old Irish name Brighid, derived from the Proto-Celtic root brig, meaning height, power, or exalted one. The name gained widespread use in medieval Europe largely through the veneration of Saint Brigid of Kildare, one of Ireland's patron saints, and later through Saint Birgitta of Sweden, the fourteenth-century mystic and founder of the Bridgettine order. It remains common in German, Hungarian, and Scandinavian-influenced naming traditions. Closely related forms include Bridget, Brigid, Birgitta, and Brigitte.
