feminine · English origin
Cissy is an English pet form of Cecil or, more commonly, of Cecilia, itself derived from the Latin family name Caecilia, related to the Roman gens Caecia and possibly connected to the Latin word caecus, meaning blind. The name gained affectionate use in the English-speaking world as an informal diminutive during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It is also found as a variant of Sissy, and shares roots with the French Cécile and the Spanish Cecilia.
