Claudina is a Spanish feminine diminutive of Claudia, itself the feminine form of the Roman family name Claudius, derived from the Latin cognomen meaning lame or limping, traditionally associated with a physical characteristic of an ancestor of the Roman patrician gens Claudia. The name was borne by early Christian martyrs and saints, which helped spread it throughout the Romance-speaking world.
