Didi

Didi is used across several cultures with different origins. In Hebrew tradition it functions as a pet form of Dina or Judith, carrying the underlying meanings of those names (judgment and praised woman, respectively). In German and Dutch-speaking regions it developed as a diminutive of names beginning with the element Diet or Diet-, meaning people or folk, related to names such as Dietrich and Dieter. It also circulates as an affectionate short form of Diederik, Didier, or Diederick, making it a cross-cultural hypocoristic with cognates spread across European naming traditions.
