Dorian

Dorian derives from the ancient Greek tribal name Dōrieus, denoting a member of the Dorians, a Hellenic people whose name is traditionally connected to the region of Doris in central Greece. The name was rare as a given name before Oscar Wilde made it famous through his 1890 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, whose vain protagonist has kept the name in literary consciousness ever since. It also coincides with the Dorian mode, one of the ancient Greek musical scales. Variant forms include Dorián in Hungarian and the feminine Doriana.
