Eddie

Eddie is an English pet form of Edward or Edmund, both rooted in Old English elements meaning wealth or fortune combined with guard or protector. The name gained widespread independent use in the nineteenth century and has been borne by figures such as American comedian Eddie Cantor and musician Eddie Van Halen. It is also used as a short form of Edgar and Edwin, which share the Old English element ead meaning prosperity. Ed and Ned are closely related diminutives within the same family.
