Edgard

Edgard is a French form of the Old English name Edgar, composed of the elements ead, meaning wealth or fortune, and gar, meaning spear. The name was borne by several Anglo-Saxon kings, most notably Edgar the Peaceful, tenth-century king of England. It entered French usage following medieval cultural exchange with England and remains in occasional use in French-speaking regions as well as in parts of Latin America. Edgar and Edgardo are closely related forms found across European and Hispanic traditions.
