Elfriede is a German feminine given name derived from the Old English and Old High German elements alb, meaning elf, and fridu, meaning peace. It is the German form of the Old English name Ælfþryð, known in English as Elfreda or Elfrida, which was borne by a tenth-century Anglo-Saxon queen, Ælfthryth, wife of King Edgar.
