Elli

Elli has multiple origins. As a Greek and Germanic name it functions as a short form of names beginning with El-, such as Eleonora and Elisabeth, the latter derived from the Hebrew Elisheba, meaning my God is an oath or my God is abundance. In Finnish the name is similarly used as a diminutive of Elisabeth. In Norse mythology, Elli is the personification of old age, a figure who defeats even the god Thor in a wrestling match in the Prose Edda, her name derived from Old Norse meaning old age.
