Erzs%c3%a9bet

Erzsébet is the Hungarian form of Elizabeth, ultimately derived from the Hebrew name Elisheba, meaning something along the lines of my God is an oath or my God is abundance. The name entered Hungarian through Medieval Latin and Greek transmission of the biblical figure who appears in the Old Testament as the wife of Aaron. It gained enormous popularity in Hungary partly through Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, the thirteenth-century princess renowned for her charity, who is venerated across Catholic Europe. Closely related forms include Elisabeth, Isabella, Elspeth, and Lisbeth.
