Estelle is a French given name derived from the Old Provençal name Estela, which traces back to the Latin stella, meaning star. The name was relatively rare in medieval Europe but was revived in the nineteenth century, partly through literary influence, and gained popularity across French-speaking countries and the English-speaking world.
