Fay

Fay is an English name with two plausible origins: it derives either from the Old French word for fairy or enchanted being, related to the Latin fata meaning fate, or as a short form of Faith, itself from the Latin fides meaning trust or belief. The fairy connection gave the name a mystical character, most famously associated with Morgan le Fay, the enchantress of Arthurian legend. As an independent given name it became particularly popular in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, partly through stage and literary use. Related forms include Faye and the longer name Faith.
