Franchesca is a Latinate spelling variant of Francesca, the Italian feminine form of Francesco, itself derived from the Medieval Latin Franciscus, meaning "Frankish" or "from Francia," referring to the Germanic Franks. The name ultimately traces to the tribal name Frank, possibly connected to a word meaning "free."
