Gretel

Gretel is a German diminutive of Margarete, itself derived through Latin Margarita from Greek margaritēs, meaning pearl. The name is most widely known from the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel, collected and published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812, which gave the name a lasting place in Western literary and folk culture. Margareta, Gretchen, and Grete are closely related forms sharing the same root.
