Guillaume

Guillaume is the French form of William, derived from the Old High German name Willahelm, composed of the elements wil meaning "will, desire" and helm meaning "helmet, protection." The name was brought to England by the Normans following the Conquest of 1066, most famously in the person of Guillaume le Conquérant, known in English as William the Conqueror. It remained enormously popular throughout medieval France and the broader francophone world. Related forms include Willem in Dutch, Guillermo in Spanish, and Guglielmo in Italian.
