Henry

Henry comes from the Germanic name Heimirich, composed of the elements heim, meaning home, and ric, meaning power or ruler, giving an overall sense of ruler of the home or lord of the estate. The name was introduced to England by the Normans and became enormously popular there, borne by eight kings of England from the twelfth to the sixteenth centuries, most famously Henry VIII. It also spread throughout Europe in various forms, including the Latinized Henricus, the French Henri, the German Heinrich, the Italian Enrico, and the Spanish Enrique. Harry, originally a medieval English vernacular form, is now often used as an independent given name.
