Hubrecht

Hubrecht is a Dutch archaic form of a Germanic name composed of the elements hug, meaning mind or spirit, and beraht, meaning bright or shining, yielding an overall sense of bright mind or radiant intellect. It belongs to the same family as the widely used Hubert, as well as the Latinized Hubertus and the French Hubert, all descending from the Old High German Hugaberht. The name was borne by Saint Hubert of Liège, the eighth-century patron saint of hunters, whose veneration helped spread the name throughout medieval Europe. Hubrecht and the related Hubertus remained in use in the Low Countries into the early modern period before giving way to more contemporary forms.
