Ilsa

Ilsa is a Germanic name, a contracted short form of Elisabeth, which itself traces back through Latin and Greek to the Hebrew Elisheba, meaning something along the lines of my God is an oath or my God is abundance. The name gained wide recognition in the English-speaking world largely through the character Ilsa Lund in the 1942 film Casablanca. It is closely related to Ilse, the more common German and Dutch variant, as well as to Elsa, Lisa, and the fuller form Elisabeth.
