Jaakob

Jaakob is the Finnish and Estonian form of Jacob, ultimately derived from the Hebrew name Yaakov, which is traditionally interpreted as meaning heel grabber or supplanter, referring to the biblical patriarch who grasped his twin brother Esau's heel at birth. The name passed into widespread European use through the Latin Iacobus and Greek Iakobos. Related forms include the Finnish Jaakko, the Estonian Jaakopp, and the international variants Jakob and Jacob.
