Janez

Janez is a Slovenian form of John, ultimately derived from the Hebrew name Yohanan, meaning God is gracious. It entered Slovenian through Latin Iohannes and became the standard local adaptation of this widespread biblical name. The name has been common in Slovenia for centuries, partly through veneration of Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Apostle. Related forms include Ivan, Jan, Johan, and Johannes.
