Jen is most commonly an English short form of Jennifer, itself the Cornish form of the Welsh name Gwenhwyfar, meaning fair and smooth or white and yielding. It gained widespread use as an independent given name throughout the twentieth century, particularly in North America, where Jennifer ranked among the most popular names of the 1970s and 1980s.
