Jennie

Jennie is an English diminutive of Jennifer or Jenny, both of which trace back ultimately to the Old French and medieval English form Genevieve, or alternatively to the Cornish and Welsh name Jennifer, derived from the Welsh Gwenhwyfar, meaning fair and smooth or white and smooth. The name gained widespread use in the English-speaking world during the nineteenth century, carried in part by the fame of Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind, known as the Swedish Nightingale, which helped popularize it across both Britain and North America.
