Jez

Jez is an English short form of Jeremy or Jezebel, though it functions most commonly as a diminutive of Jeremy, which itself derives through Latin and Greek from the Hebrew name Yirmeyahu, meaning "God will exalt" or "appointed by God." As an independent given name it remains rare and is largely confined to informal British usage. The full form Jeremy and the Hebrew source name Jeremiah are its closest cognates.
