Jodoc

Jodoc is a Breton masculine name derived from an Old Breton element meaning lord or chief, related to the Celtic root that also underlies the Brythonic concept of noble status. The name was borne by a seventh-century Breton saint, known in Latin as Judocus or Josse, who according to legend renounced a kingship to become a pilgrim and hermit, and whose cult spread widely through medieval Europe. The Latinized form Judocus gave rise to the Flemish and German variant Joost, the French Josse, and the English Joyce, which was used as both a surname and given name.
