Jodocus

Jodocus is a Latinized form of the Breton name Judoc, itself derived from the Old Breton element iud, meaning lord or chief. The name was borne by a seventh-century Breton saint, Judoc of Pontivy, whose veneration spread through Brittany, Cornwall, and into continental Europe, making the Latinized form common in medieval ecclesiastical records. The name gave rise to vernacular forms including Jost and Josse in German and French traditions respectively, and it remains the source of the Dutch and Low German name Joost.
