Joep

Joep is a Dutch familiar form of Joseph, which derives from the Hebrew name Yosef, meaning "he will add" or "God will increase." It developed as a colloquial short form widely used in the Netherlands and Flanders, in the same way that other European languages produced their own pet forms of this biblically significant name. The name Joseph itself gained widespread use across the Christian and Jewish worlds through the Old Testament figure of Joseph, son of Jacob, and the New Testament figure of Joseph of Nazareth. Related forms include Jos, Jef, and the full Dutch form Josef or Jozef.
