The name Kévin is the French form of Kevin, an anglicization of the Old Irish name Caoimhín, derived from the elements caomh (gentle, kind) and the diminutive suffix, giving an overall sense of little gentle one or beloved child. The name was borne by Saint Caoimhín of Glendalough, a sixth-century Irish monk whose veneration spread the name throughout Ireland and later across Europe. Kévin became widely popular in France and other French-speaking regions from the 1980s onward, largely through American and Anglophone cultural influence.
