Kali

Kali is a Sanskrit name derived from the root kāla, meaning time, black, or dark. In Hindu tradition it is most closely associated with the goddess Kālī, a fierce, transformative deity representing time, death, and liberation, making the name deeply significant in South Asian religious culture. The masculine form Kāla appears in texts as an epithet of both Shiva and Yama, god of death, while feminine variants and pet forms include Kaali and Kalie. Outside South Asia the name has been adopted more broadly, sometimes understood simply as a given name independent of its mythological weight.
