Katrin

Katrin is a German, Swedish, and Estonian short form of Katharina, which derives from the Greek name Aikaterine. The ultimate root of Aikaterine is debated, but it has long been associated by folk etymology with the Greek katharos, meaning pure. The name gained widespread use throughout medieval Europe largely through the veneration of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Closely related forms include Katrina, Katrín, Katrine, and Kaarina.
