Kit

Kit is an English pet form of Christopher, itself derived from the Greek Christophoros, meaning bearer of Christ, combining Christos (the anointed one) and pherein (to carry). It has been used independently as a given name since at least the early modern period, with the Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe being widely known by this nickname. Kit can also serve as a diminutive of Katherine or Katharine, tracing back through Latin Katharina to the Greek Aikaterine, of uncertain but possibly pre-Greek origin.
