Klaudia is the Polish, Slovak, Hungarian, Albanian, and German feminine form of the Latin family name Claudius, itself derived from the Roman clan name likely rooted in the Latin claudus, meaning lame or limping. The name entered widespread Christian use through Saint Claudia, a woman mentioned briefly in the New Testament Second Epistle to Timothy. It shares its heritage with the French Claudie, the Italian and Spanish Claudia, and the Latinized form Claudia, all tracing back to the same ancient Roman gens.
