Kristjan is the Estonian, Slovene, and Icelandic form of Christian, derived from the Latin Christianus, meaning follower of Christ, which itself traces back to the Greek Christos, meaning anointed. The name spread throughout Europe with the growth of Christianity and was borne by numerous Scandinavian and Central European rulers and clerics.
