Lies

Lies is a German and Dutch short form of Elisabeth, which traces back through Latin and Greek to the Hebrew name Elisheba, meaning something along the lines of my God is an oath or my God is abundance. The name Elisabeth was borne by several notable figures in Christian tradition, most prominently Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, which helped spread the name widely across medieval Europe. Lies belongs to a large family of diminutives and variants that includes Liesel, Liesbet, Lisa, and Elise.
