Lindy

Lindy is a Germanic name functioning as an independent given name and as a pet form of Linda, which derives from the Old High German element lind, meaning soft, tender, or flexible, sometimes associated with the linden tree. It gained particular popularity in English-speaking countries during the twentieth century, partly boosted by admiration for aviator Charles Lindbergh, whose transatlantic flight in 1927 inspired the Lindy Hop dance craze. The name shares its roots with cognates such as Linda, Lynda, and Belinda, all of which carry the same Germanic base.
