Lo

Lo is a name with multiple independent origins. As a Scandinavian short form of names beginning with Lo- such as Lova or Lovisa (themselves derived from the Old High German element hlud, meaning fame or renown), it has been used as an independent given name in Nordic countries. In some East Asian traditions, particularly Chinese, Lo (羅 or 盧) functions as both a surname and, less commonly, a given name, carrying meanings related to a net or to black respectively. It also appears as an English nickname or diminutive, most famously associated with the title character of Vladimir Nabokov's novel Lolita, whose full name Dolores is shortened to Lo.
