Lola

Lola is a Spanish diminutive of Dolores, itself derived from the Spanish title María de los Dolores, meaning Mary of Sorrows, ultimately from the Latin dolor, meaning pain or grief. The name gained widespread use across the Spanish-speaking world and later spread into English and French contexts, partly through cultural figures such as the Spanish dancer Lola Montez, whose fame made the name familiar across Europe in the nineteenth century. Dolores and Lolita are closely related forms.
