Lolita

Lolita is a Spanish diminutive of Dolores, itself derived from the Latin dolor, meaning pain or sorrow, with the full form María de los Dolores referencing a title of the Virgin Mary. The name was used across the Spanish-speaking world before gaining international notoriety through Vladimir Nabokov's 1955 novel, in which it serves as the nickname of the protagonist Dolores Haze, an association that has profoundly shaped the name's modern perception. Lola is a related short form, and Dolores remains the more widely used full name from which both diminutives descend.
